ArtsLab Shopfront's artists in residence

Not long now…

Mmm yes, the big scary Work-in-Progress showing is creeping up on us, with just a few weeks to go before we allow a peek in to what we’ve been doing over the past couple of months… eep!

I’m feeling really excited after our latest mentoring session. Well, I must be, given that it’s 1am on a Tuesday and here I am on the ArtsLab blog, writing. Woo! It’s really cool to see how bits and pieces of ideas that we have presented over the weeks have come back and come together to create a more solid foundation for our works. It really goes to show that nothing is wasted when you are in a creative development stage: even if you don’t use everything (which of course, you won’t), the more you make, the more you have to work with, and the richer the work will be for you having gone through the process of generating, selecting, discarding, piecing together, and ultimately, refining.

Of course, it ain’t easy. I totally had a block moment two nights ago. I thought – man, I’ve got so much STUFF that I’ve made, but I don’t know what to do with it! That’s when my journal of reflections and notes over the past few weeks came in handy – I’ve been keeping notes on what I liked, didn’t like, and themes of interest that arose regarding all the material that I’ve made from the very first mentoring session. Life-saver! So I’ve slowly been able to piece together the moments that I want to present at the showing, and over the next few weeks the task will be to focus in on those bits and pieces, making them clear, concise and well-rehearsed so I can get as much feedback on them as possible.

Busy times! But good times.

    Yay for excitement! 🙂
Should get onto the reflection bandwagon, or more of it…
