Piaf is my pin up girl

I have an inkling about what song to use for my mime fantasy interlude. ‘La Foule’ by Edith Piaf is exactly the right tone, right language and it has a great build. I can kind of already see the action on stage as the lyrics are so theatrical. Also the story the song tells is weirdly familiar…

Une traduction:

I see the city partying and delirious
Suffocating under the sun and the joy
And I hear music in the shouts and laughter
That burst and bounce around me
And lost among these people who upset me
Stunned, bewildered, I stood there
Suddenly, I turn it back,
And the crowd just throw myself into his arms …
Carried away by the crowd behind us
We lead
Crushed against each other
We are one body
and we float without effort
We shoot, chained to one another
And let us both
Blossomed, drunk and happy.
Carried by the crowd who rushed
And dancing
A mad farandole
Our hands are welded
And sometimes raised
Our bodies entwined fly
And both fall
Blossomed, drunk and happy …
And the joy splashed by her smile
Me piercing and reflects in my heart
But suddenly I uttered a cry from laughter
When the crowd is it out of my arms …
Carried away by the crowd behind us
We lead
Us away from each other
I fight and I am struggling
But the sound of his voice
Stifled the laughter of others
And I cry of pain, fury and rage
And I cry …
Coached by the crowd who rushed
And dancing
A mad farandole
I am swept away
I clenched my fists, cursing the crowd steals
The man she had given me
And I never found …
